I don't think I have ever worked at a company quite like Vitrum. Millions of dollars in machinery. None of it ever cleaned or maintained. Zero training for any of the different systems. If its broken, you simply fix it any way you can. In digesting the company as a whole, it becomes very clear that the owner has no formal business training or education. They try to hire people with skills in this area; however, it fails due to micromanagement by the owner. Its quite clear that the company only exists because his father props it financially. The owner himself is quite volatile. Senior management has to endure being called names in front of colleagues. Unfortunately, this is the price that is paid for a title within the organization. Turnover is ridiculously high. Often times people just stay for the free interview lunch and then leave. Dangerous workplace with little regard for WroksafeBC policy and regulations. A lot of long term employees are mutilated from serious glass injuries. Pay is considerably below industry standards. The only way to get a raise it to quit. Somehow they find the money they need to pay you after you've tendered your resignation. Most of the time it fails to retain the employee. Very little supervision. So you can essentially be your own boss. Pick your own jobs and complete them at your own pace. Parts are an endemic problem. There is literally millions of dollars in parts that have not been inventoried or organized. Often spend an entire shift searching for a $49 bearing. Expectations are low. The company doesn't exactly attract the best and the brightest. So its pretty easy to stand out. As much Overtime as you want. I have worked as many as 21 Hours straight.
